Not the Best of Starts

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to drive when it’s 110 degrees and no air conditioning? We have the answer to that question. Our air conditioner has been acting flaky for the last couple of weeks. It’s fine and then for no discernible reason cuts out and comes back and is fine again. Well it cut out permanently only an hour into our trip.

Our first campground is 50 miles east of San Diego. Four hours and no air conditioner, two hot dogs, and two sweaty people.

Right before the exit to our campground from I-8 to the National forest we stopped for gas. Sticker shock! $3.89 per gallon.

As Kate would say, I don’t know why they call it Burnt Rancheria, there aren’t any burnt ranches around (thank goodness).

The campground is in the high pines, cool bordering on chilly at night. Stunning hike up to what’s called “Desert view.”

Both Rose and Kate are doing fine, although Rose is a little stiff to get going in the morning. She made the hike to “Desert View” just fine.

Note to Self: Re-budget gas expenses.
