Senor Taco in Fountain HillsSenor Taco brings to mind crisp fried battered fish bathed in a light sauce seasoned with just a hint of cilantro nestled in a soft warm tortilla and topped with pico de gallo — chopped tomatoes, onions and cilantro. Fish tacos can be soggy if they’re made ahead of time or greasy. These were neither.
The service is fast and friendly. I’ve been to both the one on Shea Blvd and on Fountain Hills Blvd next to Papa Murphy’s Pizza.
One of the trademarks of Senor Taco is their salsa bar which includes tomatillo, mild and diablo salsas — and yes the diablo is really hot — plus spicy onions, pickled spicy carrots and roasted serrano peppers and let’s not forget the chili oil.Another favorite of mine are the carne asada quesadillas. Marinated beef steak thinly sliced served between two tortillas and then lightly grilled. Topped with sour cream, guacamole and pico de gallo.
Tamales can either be a delight or a disaster. The wrapping of masa dough can be dense or fluffy which makes or breaks a tamale as far as I’m concerned. Needless to say but I’ll say it anyway, Senor Taco offers mouth-watering tamales.
On the negative side, I wish their rice was a little more flavorful. I know I could punch it up with salsa but …Prices are reasonable and the servings generous. Okay I’m out of here it’s lunch time.
